Reimagining Plastic into
Purposeful Design
Our Story
KIGAE:WORKS was founded with a simple but ambitious goal: to address Kenya's plastic waste crisis while creating something beautiful and lasting. We saw mountains of discarded plastic and wondered — what if this could become floors, walls, surfaces that people love?
Today, we partner with certified waste management companies to source, sort, and clean plastic flakes — materials once discarded, now thoughtfully redefined. We transform this material into terrazzo tiles that rival ceramic, porcelain, and stone in beauty, while surpassing them in sustainability.
What We Believe
Design is Universal
Beautiful spaces shouldn't come at the cost of our planet. We prove that sustainable materials can be as premium as any other.
Waste is Opportunity
Every piece of plastic we use is one less in our oceans and landfills. We see today's waste as tomorrow's resource.
Local Matters
Crafted in Kenya for a global audience, our work reflects local ingenuity, skilled craftsmanship, and a commitment to building sustainable industries that create jobs and transfer skills for generations to come.
Our Impact
Each square meter of KIGAE tiles diverts a significant volume of plastic waste from the environment, repurposing it into durable, design-led surfaces.
But our impact goes beyond material recovery. KIGAE:WORKS creates dignified employment for women and young people in manufacturing, strengthening local industry while advancing sustainable design. By building production capacity locally, we ensure that environmental solutions also generate meaningful economic opportunity.
How We Make Our Tiles
Collection
We partner with waste management companies to source clean, sorted and washed plastic waste.
Processing
The plastic is sorted by color and prepared for heating.
Crafting
We combine plastic flakes and compress them into tile form.
Finishing
Each tile is cut and polished to reveal the terrazzo pattern, then inspected for quality.
